Sparkle with Seaweed

Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed can be used as a nutritional supplement for
sparkling teeth, and a general nutrient boost for sparkling coats, gut health,
and general health.

Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed, commonly known as Norwegian Kelp, Common Wrack or Rockweed, is a brown seaweed which grows along the North Atlantic shorelines of Canada and Europe. The seaweed is harvested off the cold, clean coast of Nova Scotia, Canada using environmentally sound hand harvesting techniques to safeguard the natural resource and to ensure only Ascophyllum nodosum is harvested. The company's rigorous quality control standards and passive solar drying techniques preserve the maximum benefits of the live seaweed.

Ascophyllum nodosum contains generous levels of vitamins including A, B1, C, D and E. It is also rich in minerals calcium, potassium, zinc, iodine, magnesium, iron and copper as well as amino acids and trace elements. Seaweed can also help strengthen the depth of coat colour and support strong nervous system and healthy digestion. It is recognized to have potential uses as a functional food to improve human gut health (therefore dog gut health also!). It has high levels of calcium to help promote healthy skin, strong bones, and teeth in both horses and dogs. It is clinically proven to improve dental health over a 90 day period, it is thought that it affects the ability of plaque to stick to surfaces in the mouth, and also softens hard tartar deposits.

There are no known side effects, though because all seaweed has high amounts of iodine, this product may not be suitable for animals undergoing thyroid treatment. It can be used by cats and dogs and is recommended that the product is started when the animal has its permanent teeth. As seaweed is a natural habitat of many fish and shellfish, if your pet has a serious fish or shellfish allergy then it is not recommended that they consume seaweed products. The safety of this product has not yet been determined for pregnant, nursing, and young animals. If you are unsure if this product is suitable for your pet, consult your vet.

This product is purchased directly from the manufacturer, who collects, and processes (dries and grinds) the seaweed into the powder in your bag. It comes from the warm water in Norway, and purchasing from this manufacturer means that we know it comes from only the Ascophyllum nodosum species that grows in Norway, not other seaweeds similar in appearance from other parts of the world. We also know that this product is 100% Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed, and there are no added ingredients like some other similar products. This seaweed does not grow in New Zealand or Australia so we are unable to buy this product locally.
