About Kelly

Kelly Daniel is currently a secondary science teacher, who studied Zoology and anatomy and physiology at Otago University. After working in various jobs including as a veterinary nurse, she decided to study Secondary teaching.

Whilst she teaches full time, and manages the Science curriculum at a Waikato Junior High School, she also instructs and trains students and their dogs, to enable her to continue further learning in both areas.

Kelly runs lessons and workshops from her Morrinsville property, online, and in private and group lessons and workshops around New Zealand. All funds raised go directly back into equipment, training and education for Kelly.

In her agility instruction, she runs the Shape Up system, with some adaptations for New Zealand courses. This consists of training and proofing jump skills to a high level, to give more flexibility in handler options. The nice this about this system is that training these jump skills will work with (and improve) most other handling systems.  You can see Kelly and Evo at the first NZ Shape up Camp in 2017 here

Kelly is proud to be the first Certified Canine Fitness Trainer, through the University of Tennessee and FitPAWS in New Zealand. More recently she has become certified as a Fear Free Trainer, which means that she is certified to assist clients in veterinary-related, and animal husbandry training to create animals that love vets, and things like nails! Kelly has more recently gained her Fenzi Dog Sports Foundation Trainer certification, in another area of huge interest - sports dog foundation training.

Kelly is also very proud to be a contributor to Daisy Peel's Agility Challenge program, providing canine fitness, and canine mindfulness challenges to an international audience.

She also loves, trains, and competes with her bunch of dogs and has successfully won and titled in a huge range of dog sports including obedience, rally-o, agility, flygility, nosework, disc, tricks, and pretty much anything she can do!

Kelly and Deo were lucky enough in 2020 to get through to the top 10 in the NZ TV show Dog Almighty, which was a very interesting and challenging experience.

Kelly has also combined dog training with her other career and has pioneered the Dogs in School program which she hopes to develop into certification and online class for other educators in New Zealand.

Other areas of professional learning include:
  • Coursera Dog Cognition and Emotion online course
  • Shape up online classes
  • Anne Lenz online classes
  • PET First aid certificate
  • Many Fenzi Dog Sports Academy courses
  • University of Tennesee Canine K-taping certification
